Saturday Stitches is our sewing program for total beginners ages 8-12, that runs for 4 weeks. Each week will involve review in order for your child to solidify what they have learned. They get to choose fun projects to build their skills on.
Prerequisite:
No previous experience or machine required.
If your child has already taken this program they can choose new projects to keep challenging yourself or transfer into Make Club on Tuesday afternoons.
**We recommend taking this course at least twice before transferring into Make Club.
Learning Outcomes:
Week 1:
- Introduction / review of the sewing machine
- Sewing machine and cutting safety
- Choosing fabrics
- Create a patchwork pillow, tote or fabric box
- Introduction to threading and making bobbins
- Review of the sewing machine
- Design and sew a tote bag or fabric box
- Basics review and practice
- Introduction to applique
- Introduction to working with zippers
- Design and create a zippered pouch
- Share 3 things that you remember about sewing
- Time for finishing any incomplete projects
What We Provide:
- Equipment: sewing machines and all tools

We keep a wide range of project samples, books (including our Imagination Book) and sewing patterns on hand to be as flexible as possible allowing kids to be self directed in their sewing!
- Materials for small projects will be provided but for bigger projects such as simple clothing projects you will need to supply your own fabrics. (We offer a 15% discount on any supplies needed for the class from our store)
What You Provide:
- Sewing machine (optional): we highly encourage your child to bring their own sewing machine, if they have one. Don't forget to pack the manual, foot pedal & power cord!
- Snacks & Refreshments: We encourage you to send snacks and refreshments as it’s much easier to be creative when you have fuel for the brain!
