Closure Information
Dear community members,
We are very sad that we will be closing The Makehouse Co-op. Our last day that we will be open to customers is February 27, 2025. However, classes are running 'til the end of the month.
We would like to thank all of our current and past customers, students, and teachers for being part of our community and for celebrating the art of sewing with us!
LIQUIDATION
We are currently liquidating all of our inventory and studio items.
- All products are 30% off when you shop on-line. Use the code “goodbye30” when checking out. Please note: on-line purchases can be paid for with Paypal or e-transfer only.
-
You are welcome to shop in-person, too, but please note that the discount will be 25%. Please check Google Maps or our Contact Page for our most up to date hours.
- We are also selling a selection of equipment, clothing samples, vintage sewing machines, books and other goodies from the studio! Come by to check out what’s available. Some larger items have been posted on Instagram and Facebook.
The "Fine Print":
-
Discounts do not apply to classes, Sewcials, Retreats, machine servicing and studio items.
-
If you are planning to buy small amounts of many different fabrics, we kindly ask that you shop on-line as these orders take quite some time to prepare.
-
All sales are final and studio items are sold “as is”.
-
Payment for studio items must be made at the time of sale. Some items will need to stay with us until the end of February as they are still in use. We’ll let you know if this is the case for your item.
GIFT CARDS
We are sad to announce that due to our legal obligations and our unfortunate economic situation, we can no longer accept gift cards as payment. We know that this will be unwelcome news for those who are affected. Please understand that we did not have any choice in this matter and that all of the worker-owners are also experiencing losses.
Some local sewing shops have stepped forward to offer a discount to customers with unredeemed Makehouse Co-op gift cards. Buttons ‘n’ Bows and Gala Fabrics are offering a one-time 20% discount and The Green Thimble is offering 25%. Present your physical or digital card at these shops to take advantage of the discount. Some conditions may apply. Please contact these shops for more information.
We’d like to offer a heartfelt thank you to Sam, Bizz and Penny, owners of these businesses, for their wonderful support!
FUN(D)RAISING RETREATS
Our March Retreat is completely sold out! Thank you so much for your support! We still have spots left in April and May. These fun day-long sewing events are taking place downtown at The Dock: Centre for Social Innovation with a catered lunch! For details, please click here!
SEWING MACHINE REPAIR
Bill Murray is no longer picking up machines from us. Want Bill to service your machine? Click here for more information.
COMING SOON! The Green Thimble
Although our business is coming to an end, The Green Thimble is taking over our lease! The Green Thimble is a wonderful business offering classes, recirculated fabric, new & used machine sales and machine servicing. Classes will be offered at 2950 Douglas St. starting at the beginning of March and the retail & repair operations will be up and running on March 18th. To check out The Green Thimble and for updates, please check out their website.
