Ramie is one of the oldest fiber crops. The plant has been used for at least 6,000 years and originates in China. It is principally used for fabric production. It comes from the inner bark of the stalks of the ramie plant.

Ramie fiber is known especially for its ability to hold shape, reduce wrinkling, and introduce a silky lustre to the fabric appearance.
