Group Classes/Workshops

At The Makehouse Co-op, we offer a wide variety of exciting group classes! All of our workshops are listed on this website. To see what classes are currently offered please click on the various options under "Classes".

We offer group classes to both children and adults. We have workshops specifically for children after-school, during spring-break and summer holidays for ages 8+. We also have workshops aimed at teens and tweens for ages 12+. Our adult workshops are for ages 16+. If you register a teen for an adult class, please let them know that they will likely be the only teen in the class. 

We like to keep our workshops cozy so we don't normally book more than 5 people.

The easiest and fastest way to register for a class is to book and pay online with a credit card or PayPal account. We also have a payment plan option using Sezzle. If you prefer to pay for your workshop with a credit card over the phone please, give us a ring. Group classes can also be booked in person in the store.

Some FAQs about our group classes:

I’ve never sewn before/It's been a long time since I sewed. What workshops are right for me?
You will want to start with one of our introductory sewing courses. Our Learn to Sew: Tote Bag, Learn to Sew: Cushion Cover, Learn to Sew: Lunch Bag and Home Sewing Boot Camp are all great places to start.

What should I bring to my class?
Please check the workshop descriptions on the website and the emailed class reminders for details about what to bring. We provide most tools and you can use one of our sewing machines. In most cases, patterns, fabric and notions are the responsibility of the student. Students receive 20% off in-store for the duration of their class.

Can I bring my own sewing machine to a class?
You certainly can - and in fact - we highly encourage you to! Please let us know in advance and arrive for your workshop 10 minutes early to set up.

What if I need to cancel my registration in a class?
Please review our Cancellation Policy in the footer of the website, then call us at 236-475-8549 or email classes@themakehouse.ca as soon as possible. We can discuss different options that may be available to you. 

What if I sign up on the day or the day before a class starts?
Please give us a call to check in about supplies you need so we can help you get ready for class!

I'd like to book a class but all the spots are taken. Do you have a waiting list?
Yes, you can easily add yourself to the waiting list for any class listed on the website. Simply go to the class you're interested in, pick the date you're interested in and click on "Add To Waitlist". If someone drops out of the class, our system will automatically email everyone on the waiting list. The first person who clicks on the link in the email to register will get the spot.

I'd like to book a class that you run but there are no dates listed on the website. Will you offer it in the future?
If the class is listed on the website, we will likely offer it in the future. We post dates for workshops on our website throughout the year. If you're interested in a particular class, you can let us know and we will get in touch when dates are posted.
