Learn to sew a custom lined zipper pouch at The Makehouse Co-op! This workshop is a great way to increase your confidence while practising your sewing skills! Sew a zipper pouch for yourself or make a gift for someone you love!
In this 3 hour class, you’ll begin by planning your design and cutting out your fabrics. We have a few different styles to choose from. We will then show you how to construct your lined zipper pouch using specific techniques for zipper entry pouches.
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner
Skill requirements:
Home Sewing Boot Camp, Learn to Sew: Quilting OR several of our Learn to Sew: Cushion Cover, Sew a Tote Bag, Lunch Bag OR basic sewing experience such as knowing how to thread and use a sewing machine, wind a bobbin, construct simple seams, and be familiar with sewing terminology such as "right sides of fabric together" and "seam allowance."
Must be aged 16+
In this workshop you will learn:
- Insert a small zipper with tabs
- Create and insert a lining
- How to hand stitch using ladder stitch
- Make boxed corners (optional)
- Top-stitch
What we provide:
- Sewing machine if needed and all other tools
What you provide:
- 0.5m of quilting cotton or cotton/cotton blend canvas (if you want a contrasting lining, you will .25m of main and .25m of lining)
- 9 or 10" regular nylon zipper
- Thread

Equipment requirements: We highly encourage you to bring your own sewing machine. However if you don't own a machine, or if it's inconvenient to bring yours, one will be provided for you. If you’d like to bring your home machine, please remember to bring the manual (and foot pedal/power cord) and arrive 10 minutes before start time.
