Instructor: Christopher Bowen

The focus of this class will be on cutting lines as curvilinear shapes then combining them together as part or parts of new configurations in a new overall composition, a shapely, colourful quilt top. Cutting and sewing curvilinear shapes is an expressive and dynamic method of making movement in your overall composition.

Look up the great Canadian quilter Cher Cartwright’s works. We will work towards compositions such as these.

Varying levels of depth will be explored in both the figures that dominate the composition and the background as they work together in the composition. You will be working intuitively as you cut directly into the cloth. You will be cutting large shapes and differing line widths and lengths. These shapes and lines will be used to develop your composition.

This is a fun, fun, fun and enlightening class so come with an open mind, ready for significant growth and tons of “ah ha” moments!
