Learn to re-purpose old sweaters into fingerless gloves, mittens, hat or scarf! Measure, stitch, cut and sew with support of a skilled instructor. Make something for yourself or create a gift for someone you love!
Do you have sweaters sitting in your wardrobe that you adore but no longer wear. We spend so much money on clothing in our culture and so much goes unworn and is eventually given or thrown away.
In this workshop you will learn:
- How to think outside the box!
- Ideas for upcycling & re-purposing sweaters
- When to cut and when to un-pick
- Techniques for marking, measuring and cutting
- Techniques for sewing and finishing
- When to use a machine and when to hand sew
Skill requirements: Basic hand and sewing machine experience required.
Material requirements: Please bring pre-washed/shrunk sweaters to use during this workshop. Bring a few options, you might not get through them all - but it's better to have more options than less! We will have lots of trims on hand for class use including lace, buttons, ribbon, bias tape and elastic.
Equipment requirements: Please note that we provide a sewing machine for you to use in the studio, but you are more than welcome to bring your machine from home. If you’d like to bring your home machine, please remember to bring the manual (and foot pedal/power cord) and arrive 10 minutes prior to the scheduled time.
