Fashion camp is designed for teens and tweens who are already hooked on sewing and want to take their skills and ideas to the next level! This camp is geared towards to ages 12-17 and requires some previous machine sewing experience.
Does your teen love fashion and sewing?
Our five day camp will cover the following material:
- Fashion design & process
- Illustration & working drawings
- Choosing the best fabrics for your design
- Reading patterns
- Measurements, pinning & cutting fabric
- Upcycling and re-purposing
- Garment construction
- Finishing techniques (including hemming, zippers, button holes and working with elastics)
We encourage our participants to delve into our library during the week and students are welcome to sign books out for 2 days at a time during the week (so long as they all come back on Friday!)
Skill requirements:
Fashion Camp is geared towards ages 12-17 with basic sewing skills. This includes being able to thread the sewing machine, sew straight lines & curves, back stitch and have completed several sewing projects either at home or in lessons. No previous experience sewing clothing is required, this is your chance to get started!
Material requirements:
Sewing patterns and some materials are included in the cost, however you will need to purchase your fabrics for the clothing projects. You will receive a 20% discount on materials purchased through The Makehouse and Gala Fabrics.
We like to begin the camp with fabric education as we find this helps with making good decisions and gives us a chance to discuss patterns and project options. If you happen to have fabric at home already that you would like to use during the camp, please bring these along on the first day so that we can look at the options.
Equipment requirements:
We highly encourage you to bring your own sewing machine, however if you don't own a machine, one will be provided for you. If you’d like to bring your home machine, please remember to bring the manual (and foot pedal/power cord).
Group size: Maximum 6
Snacks & Refreshments: We encourage you to send snacks and refreshments as it’s much easier to be creative when you have fuel for the brain!
