
Learn to sew your own leggings in this 3 hour workshop. Get over fears of working with knit fabrics and discover the joys of working with a serger, twin needle and/or coverstitch machine!
Skill Level: Advanced beginner
Skill requirements:
Couple of our 'Learn to Sew' series classes, Home Sewing Boot Camp (All under Beginner Sewing Workshops) OR basic sewing experience such as knowing how to thread and use a sewing machine, wind a bobbin, construct simple seams, and be familiar with sewing terminology such as "right sides of fabric together" and "seam allowance."
Must be aged 16+
In this workshop you will learn:
- Learn the basic properties of knit fabrics
- How to cut from a pattern
- Introduction to the serger
- Introduction to the coverstitch machine and twin needle
- What stitches to use when sewing knits on a regular sewing machine
- How to apply elastics
- Proper hemming techniques for knits
- You’ll make a pair of leggings
Material requirements:
Pattern: You will need a copy of Jalie Stella Leggings Pattern
Fabric: You will need 1m (Height - 5"5 and less) -1.5m (Height - 5"6 and more) of knit fabric. Suitable fabrics can be found here.
Notions: 1 spool of coordinating polyester thread and your waist measurement in elastic (3/4" - 1" wide)
We provide the serger threads for this workshop and the appropriate needles. Specialty needles are available to purchase at the end of the class.

Equipment requirements: We highly encourage you to bring your own sewing machine, however if you don't own a machine, one will be provided for you. If you’d like to bring your home machine, please remember to bring the manual (and foot pedal/power cord) and arrive 10 minutes prior to the scheduled time.
