Learn to sew your own leggings in this 3 hour workshop. Get over fears of working with knit fabrics and discover the joys of working with a serger, twin needle and/or coverstitch machine!

In this workshop you will learn:

  • Learn the basic properties of knit fabrics
  • How to cut from a pattern
  • Introduction to the serger
  • Introduction to the coverstitch machine and twin needle
  • What stitches to use when sewing knits on a regular sewing machine
  • How to apply elastics
  • Proper hemming techniques for knits
  • You’ll make a pair of leggings

Skill requirements: Previous sewing experience required. You must be able to confidently operate a sewing machine to take part in this workshop.

Material requirements: 

Fabric: You will need 1m (Height - 5"5 and less) -1.25m (Height - 5"6 and more) of knit fabric. This can be a bamboo, Tencel or cotton knit or a blend of the two. 

Notions: 1 spool of coordinating polyester thread and your waist measurement in elastic (3/4" - 1" wide)

We have a fun selection of prints, solids and stripes in-store and you'll get a 20% student discount on your materials. We provide the serger threads for this workshop and the appropriate needles. Specialty needles are available to purchase at the end of the class.

Equipment requirements: Please note that we provide a sewing machine for you to use in the studio, but you are more than welcome to bring your machine from home. If you’d like to bring your home machine, please remember to bring the manual (and foot pedal/power cord) and arrive 10 minutes prior to the scheduled time.

 Group size: We like to keep our workshops cozy and fun, so attendance is limited to 6 guests.

You will complete 1 pair of children's or adult leggings during this workshop and leave with a printed copy of the pattern.

Once you’ve completed this workshop – you can take advantage of our open studio time to use the serger!
