Do you love sewing for kids? and you have taken Part 1 of Making Kids Clothes? Join this four week Part 2 series designing and sewing children’s knit clothing. You will build on your skills from the previous class and learn new techniques with sewing knit clothing for kids. Plus learn how you combine knits with woven fabrics.
Skill Level: Advanced beginner
Skill requirements:
Prerequisite is Making Kids Clothes Part 1 - Wovens to take this class.
Must be aged 16+
In this workshop you will learn:
- How to chose the right knit fabric for your garment
- Making the most out of your fabrics
- Construction techniques and shortcuts for kids clothing
- Applique techniques to add detail on knits
- Tips and tricks for sewing neat hems and finishing details
- Tips on how to re-purpose knit adult clothing into children's knit garments
What will you be making?
This workshop is focused on making knits for ages 0-12 years old. We are flexible in terms of what you are making as you know your kiddos best!
Patterns Available: We have a selection of patterns for you to use during the workshop including leggings, tee-shirts, pinafore dress, button up shirt, shorts, trousers and skirts in all sizes. You are of course welcome to bring your own patterns to work from as well.
Material requirements: You will be required to purchase fabrics for your chosen clothing projects.
We offer a 20% student discount on all your supplies for this workshop! You will be sent a code to use online once you've registered for your class!
We always have lots of odds and ends of fabric and trims on hand for little details, so you really just need your main fabrics. You can also bring adult clothing that you wish to re-purpose if you prefer.
Equipment requirements: We highly encourage you to bring your own sewing machine, however if you don't own a machine, one will be provided for you. If you’d like to bring your home machine, please remember to bring the manual (and foot pedal/power cord) and arrive 10 minutes prior to the scheduled time.
Group size: Maximum 5 guests to keep our classes cozy and fun!
