Learn simple upholstery techniques, to revive your tired old furniture with your chosen fabrics.
Our talented and very experienced upholsterer Miro [from Miro’s Upholstery] will lead you through the process using traditional techniques. Spanish born Miro was trained in traditional techniques during his early years in Europe.
This is a great way to learn upholstery without major investments in equipment such as a nail gun. You will leave with a gorgeous newly upholstered item and the skills to revamp the rest of your home!
What you need to bring:
- Portable piece of furniture (dining chair, ottoman or stool are all perfect)
- Magnetic tack hammer
- Wooden mallet
- Flat screwdriver
- Pliers or side-cutters
- Notebook & pen.
- Camera (students are strongly encouraged to bring along a digital camera to document their project)
- Other tools are available in the studio such as scissors, rulers tape measures, chalk, needles)
This is a very hands-on workshop and does require some physical energy. Each project will have different requirements depending on the condition of the wood and how much work is involved in stripping the current materials. Please be prepared to do some homework in-between classes. Each project will be discussed in the first session so that you can plan the stages of your project.
