We have tons of fun teaching your kids how to create, design and sew! Our fashion studio is chock-a-block with fabric, ribbons, trims and notions – a young creators paradise.
The Makehouse is now in its fourth year offering summer camps and the experiences we offer continue to grow. We have taught hundreds of kids to create, design and sew through our workshops, camps and schools. We can’t wait to teach yours!
The group size will be a maximum of 12 kids so there is plenty of one to one help.
Make Camp is open to all levels of sewing experience. We also have Fashion Camps (12-17) for youth who are confident with basic sewing machine skills and would like to move on to creating clothing from patterns.
Make Camp Activities:
Monday – Needle felting & Hand Sewing -(needle felt is the process of interlocking wool fibres by pocking with a barbed needle) Make anything from your imagination (animal, character or other object) from wool roving using this fun technique.
Tuesday – Sew Many Squares – Introduction to the sewing machine and patchwork projects including alphabet, square or heart shaped pillows, tote bags and more.
Wednesday – Sock Animals & Dolls – Sock puppet making, hand & machine sewn dolls, animals & monsters – creating your own 3D friends from our large collection of materials!
Thursday – Creating Details – Zippered pouches, cases, applique, hand embroidery, pom pom making and simple quilting techniques.
Fashion Friday – Design and sew your own leggings or tee-shirt (we will be discussing fabric/options earlier in the week so that we can prep materials for this session in advance).
All materials and equipment are provided for each and every project.
We encourage you to pack snacks and refreshments with your kids as it’s much easier to be creative when you have fuel for the brain! We provide water and herbal teas. Please inform us if your child has any food allergies.
